Carnevale 2010 PDF Drucken E-Mail

“Masks, disguises, costumes and charades have always been a part of human culture. This page is for the ones who love to give themselves new facettes and looks. Be free with your imagination and enjoy … anything is possible in the World of Costumes!"

My dear friends!

Carnevale 2010 is over. Last year we decided to not participate in 2010 or come to the carnival that year. Why? Because I was pregnant and our second baby was due a week before carnival would have started. The best excuse ever to skip our favorite event of the year. But life's a bitch sometimes, cruel, unfair and not very funny at all. On September 24th 2009 we lost our little son Matteo in my sixth month of pregnancy.

After the first hard weeks (we are still not over losing Matteo, never will and he will always leave an empty space in our hearts) we decided to focus on beautiful things in life to drag us out of hell we fell in. As life and the world is everywhere:

Darkness has to be fought with light!!! Beauty wins over ugliness, joy will defeat pain if one really focusses in the good in life, not the bad. We are positive thinkers and even if the pain fades very, very slowly, we want to live and love life. We will try again for a new baby, since children are worth all the risks and the pain.

Costume making gives back a lot to me. And this time I am thankful to have received something really great besides celebrating with you: The German TV asked me to do a documentry about the Carnevale di Venezia. A TV team has followed me four days through the city and to a banquet that I attended with my friend Valerie (Tour arrangement by Ulmer + Wahl). Additionally we stayed some nights at the world famous stunning Hotel Danieli. And even if I come to the Carnevale for more than ten years now, staying at the Danieli was very special to me.

The film was broadcasted on Saturday, 13th, 18.20-18.50, German TV, WDR "Hier & Heute" (directly go to the video here)

And also the Deutsche Welle (DW-TV) has shown a 5 minute thing about me on Tuesday, 9th. Here are the streams available in English and German

A lot of you guys asked me if I had won again. No, I did not this year. But it is fine for me. To having won three times in a row was fantastic and is not repeatable. If I would have won a fourth time that would have been crazy. I think the jury this year took a very wise decision to ask for our names in advance and choose a group that was not neccessarily the "most beautiful" costume. The Rats from England are definitely one of the most entertaining groups in the Carnavale di Venezia. They played great with the audience and are also coming for years now. They are friendly and nice with the other costumes and really fun to watch. And rats (Pantegane how the big ones are called in Venice) in Venice that matches (since in the anti-Carnevale in Castello Pantegane are a big topic). I was especially happy that a couple from Hanover who came as funny fairies got the third prize for "S. Valentine's couple". They also come for years now and play with the people in the streets. They absolutely deserve it for their inspirational and positve attitude they bring to carnevale.

Wise decision of the jury to just give an honorary prize to one of the "usual suspects", Rossanna Molinatti, and wonderful over 80 y.o. lady and artist from Venice. She is participating in the Carnevale for a very long time now and still goes on stage every year to give pleasure to the audience with her stunning "walking paintings".

It was a great season. Thanks to everyone. We will post more fotos and stories about our costumes soon. We just did not have the time by now to do it properly.

The only thing I was sad about this year was that three of my costumes got lost this year due to a snow problem on the Munich airport. They arrived in Venice on Monday, after the parade. Pity also for my friends who wanted to wear the new dresses. But they will have a chance in 2011 then :-)

Bacio a tutti,

Tanja

PS: A HUGE THANK YOU to my beloved hubby Tobias for supporting and giving me strength in good and bad times. And to my little princess Sophia who was fantastic again in this years carnevale. I love you both soooooo much!

Juni in Hamburg statt.

1st prize for best costume in Carnevale di Venezia 2008!

For the second time (after 2007)  I won the award for “Best Costume of the Carnival of Venice”! My costume was named “Luna park” – amusement park.

This year I had to succeed in a preselection first (against several hundreds of costumes in two days) and then in the final contest against approx. 30 other costumes from all over the world.

I was stunned to make a dream come true TWICE and win again. What an honour!

As a side note: My costume “Casino” worn by my friend Jacqui was placed under the best ten!

1st prize for best costume in Carnevale di Venezia 2007

Costume which won 2007This is the costume “La Montgolfiera” which won the award for “Best Costume in the Carnival of Venice 2007” on the public parade in St. Mark's Square. The costume won against more than 300 costumes which took part in the parade, attendance of the viewers was about 135,000 people. Wow, a dream come true for a costume maker!!!
